Dis-Chem Pharmacies Ltd, headed up by founding CEO Ivan Saltzman, is a retail pharmacy group listed on the JSE since November 2016. It is predominantly a South African retailer with a limited presence in Namibia and Botswana.

Dis-Chem launched The Local Choice (TLC) brand that includes a franchise network of smaller, independently -owned community pharmacies. CJ Distribution was acquired in 2016, combining operations with Dis-Chem wholesale to fulfil distribution capabilities. To entrench its position as a leading distributor of pharmaceutical, personal care and household products in January 2021, the Group acquired the Baby City store network of 33 outlets across South Africa, followed by Medicare pharmacies in October 2021, giving the Group access to several new markets in geographies where Dis-Chem had been previously under-represented. In FY2022, the Group also launched Dis-Chem Health, which offers medical insurance and gap cover at low rates, thus cementing its position as a primary healthcare services provider.
